The whole shebang is this Friday, December 4th from 4:30-8:00pm. Events consist of the following:

  • Downtown Merchants of Blacksburg Annual Open Houses, 4 – 8 pm: Late night shopping, free gift wrap, snacks and beverages, holiday specials.
  • Deo Gloria will carol through the stores and streets.
  • Holiday Farmer’s Market, 4 – 7 pm: Crafts, Funnel Cakes, free hot chocolate and hot cider, Student Government Association selling Hokie Basketball shirts, Blacksburg Junior Master Chorale Bake Sale, and more in the new Market Square Park, (fomer Blacksburg Farmer’s Market space)
  • Pictures with Santa at The Lyric, 4:30 pm: Bring your own camera.
  • Opening Reception and Book Signing for Signs of Dysfunction at the Mish Mish Gallery, 5 -7 pm: In the show are photographs from the new book, Signs of Dysfunction by local photographer Kirk Carter. The show and book depict the subtext of signage through photos of incomplete, vandalized, weathered, painted-over and otherwise remarkably useless signs. Most of the photos were taken in or near Southwest Virginia. Framed prints and copies of the book will be available for purchase during the run of the show, December 4-31.
  • Tree lighting with music from the Blacksburg Children’s Master Chorale, 5:30 pm
  • TubaChristmas, 6 pm: Market Square Park, co-sponsored by the Downtown Merchants of Blacksburg, the Lyric Theatre and the Department of Music at Virginia Tech
  • Sounds of the Season Holiday Parade, 7 pm: co-sponsored by Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Department and Virginia Tech Chapter of Circle K
